I Communicate through my Art:
This piece is a combination of a fish and a music note. I tried to express the fluidity, musicality, and grace that can be held in everyday things. You can go to any pet store and find a beta fish or a gold fish but we never think of them as anything other than a decoration. Its kind of a moment of reflection and should be seen as nothing more than a personal statement to just remember to think more about what is beyond what we see.

I Take Risks:
After the disaster of a time I had with charcoal I was hesitant to use such a similar medium. I thought the fish would look best with chalk pastel. I ended up enjoying the chalk pastel more than another medium we have used so far because of how forgiving it is and the amazing way that layering can be used. This was a big risk for me because it was way out of my comfort zone.

We Collaborate:
After drawing my fish I faced the problem of making it obvious that it was intended to be morphed with a music note. I drew the staff with a sharpie and couldn't get the fish positioned in a way that truly showed my intentions. I came up with the idea of adding the treble clef but dismissed the idea after deciding that I was already short on space. Mrs. Sudkamp recommended I draw it half on the page and it definitely gave the illusion that I was going for.
