I developed my art making skills! At the beginning of the Artists Observe unit I was absolutely terrified of the idea of using charcoal. I believed it was an unforgiving median that was extremely difficult to use but after completing the final project for this unit I have changed my view on this median! I think it is extremely crafted to the artist's needs for shading and large areas of darkness or a high value picture. It does not allow for a focus on detail so by using pen I could contrast the charcoal. This was a little frightening but it turned out way better than I thought it would!
I solve problems! I had a problem with keeping a sharp contrast between the charcoal and the clock face (that is white) when it was all being done on the same paper. By cutting out the clock face and placing it on the already charcoaled paper I was able to maintain the drastic difference in color and value.
